Noise and vibration can pose great risks to health and safety on a business premises or a construction site. Over a million UK workers are considered to be at risk of hearing loss or damage from noise in their place of work – this includes those that work on construction sites, manufacturing plants or within forestry. At Phoenix Safety Services, we can identify and advise on solutions for workplace noise issues. We can conduct noise measurement assessments, assessing equipment such as machinery, vehicles, tools and hearing protectors. We can provide further advice on hearing protection measures. We also offer training for staff on noise exposure, noise levels and noise management.
As with noise, frequent exposure to vibration (through hand-held tools or vibrating equipment), can cause injury and long-term disability/impairment to limbs. It is believed that up to 300,000 working days in the UK are lost every year because of vibration-related injuries, such as hand-arm vibration syndrome. We can advise on effective solutions to keep your staff safe and healthy, minimising the risk of such injuries. Our staff are highly experienced in assessing and advising on industrial environments, and can help your business implement and adopt a vibration control strategy.
We also offer a wide range of equipment in relation to noise and vibration, and offer tools for hire or purchase depending on your needs. We have a wide range of hearing protection available, and can show you how to check the integrity of hearing protection.
H3: Noise and vibration awareness training
We offer courses to train staff on the importance of protecting hearing and the body against loud noise and vibration. Delegates are taught about the ways in which sound and vibration can affect the body, and how their hearing and limbs can be damaged if the correct precautions are not taken. The course also teaches early warning signs to look out for in terms of hearing loss.
All workers on a construction or industrial site must take a noise and vibration awareness course that complies with health and safety legislation. As an employer, you must abide by the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, which states that:
- You must identify noise risks from noise exposure and act accordingly to reduce them
- Take all reasonable steps to protect employees’ hearing
- Provide employees with adequate hearing protection and other necessary equipment so their hearing is protected
- Provide up to date training on vibration and noise awareness
