Water Hygiene Training Course

The need for our Water Hygiene training has come about because any worker who comes into contact with potable water or the pipework associated with potable water has to recognise the potential for contamination. The Water Utility Companies have agreed that it is a requirement that any worker who will work on the potable water network must be in possession of a valid National Water Hygiene Card.

Overview

The aim of the Water Hygiene training course is to provide an understanding of the need for good hygiene when working with potable water.

Water Hygiene Training Course

Structure and Content: 3 hours

  • Importance of hygiene
  • Working in “Restricted Operations”
  • Medical conditions
  • Hygiene code awareness
  • Fuel, diesel and chemical contamination
  • Pipe storage
  • Pets and livestock
  • Cleaning, disinfection and chlorination
  • “Sump and pump”
  • Incident reporting
  • Approved products
  • Sampling and audits

The course will conclude with a multiple-choice exam and completion of a health-screening questionnaire.

A National Water Hygiene card will be provided to successful and health candidates by the Energy and Utility Skills Register.

Delegates must pass the exam and must successfully complete the health-screening questionnaire. They may be required to visit their Doctor if there is any question over their health. Without this card or a failure on the part of the delegate to declare any relevant health problem will prevent the delegate from working with potable water.
