Site Management Safety Training Scheme - SMSTS

This five day course is designed for those persons, who have, or are about to have, responsibility for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering construction projects and the construction workforce. This will include site managers, contract managers, sub-contract management and agents.

Overview

The SMSTS course will ensure that all managers have an understanding of health, safety & welfare and environmental issues. It will provide them with an understanding of their legal responsibilities and will highlight the need to manage health & safety effectively in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It will also help them to: demonstrate skills to contractors and clients; run a safer and more efficient site; identify and avoid potential hazards on site; prepare method statements, risk assessments.

Structure & Content: 5 days including examination, exercises and case study

The course contains the following section:

  • Site Set-up
  • CDM Regulations
  • Risk Assessments
  • Method Statements
  • Scaffolding
  • Electricity
  • Excavations
  • Demolition
  • Confined Spaces

Assessment & Certification

The delegates are expected to participate and be interactive throughout the course. The course is assessed by a multiple-choice test at the end of the course.

Successful candidates will have a valid certificate for 5 years, but due to ever changing health & safety legislation, technology and cultural behaviour, we recommend that candidates attend a 3-yearly refresher.

The course is a perfect foundation for all managers and supervisors in the construction industry and will provide a natural progression onto the NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Safety courses.
