NEBOSH (National Examination Board of Occupational Safety & Health)
General Certificate

Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work 1999 requires an organisation to have access to a competent health and safety advisor. The NEBOSH General Certificate provides delegates with the minimum academic health & safety qualification, added to their experience, to underpin the requirement of competence.

Overview

The general certificate syllabus is based upon risk assessment and is designed to provide the underpinning knowledge that delegates to discharge more effectively their duties or functions in workplace health & safety.

Structure & Content: 14 days including a study day and examinations

Unit 1 – Health and safety foundation
Unit 2 – Policy
Unit 3 – Organising for health and safety
Unit 4 – promoting a positive health and safety culture
Unit 5 – Risk Assessment
Unit 6 – Principles of control
Unit 7 – Movement of people and vehicles – hazards and control
Unit 8 – manual and mechanical handling hazards and control
Unit 9 – Work equipment hazards and control
Unit 10 – Electrical hazards and control
Unit 11 – Fire hazards and control
Unit 12 – Chemical and biological health hazards and control
Unit 13 – Physical and psychological health hazards and control Unit 14 – Construction activities – hazards and control
Unit 15 – Incident investigation, recording and reporting
Unit 16 – Monitoring, review and audit

Assessment & Certification

The course has two x 2 hour examinations (A1 – The management of safety and health; A2 – Controlling workplace hazards) and a workplace practical assessment.
Upon successful completion NEBOSH will issue an internationally recognised certificate of competence.

If you want a career in health & safety you will find no better place to start. The course is 14 day duration. This includes 2 days for examination, and a study day. It is run in a number of formats: 1 day a week over 14 weeks; 2 days a week over 7 weeks; 5 days a week over 3 weeks.
